A Guide For Nursing Home Social Workers (Springer Series on Social Work) Review
My 3 star rating is mainly based on the age of the book. I would give it 5 stars though for the author and the book content. This was the first book to my knowledge that addressed nursing home social work. It would be great if this book could be updated! It will be nine years old soon. For new social workers I think this book will still be beneficial, especially if you are NOT familiar with anything about the "ins" and "outs" of nursing homes. It includes information on basic orientation; charts and documentation; regulations related to social work; basic assessment goal and intervention; legal representatives and more.
I purchased this book several years ago. Please keep in mind this book is copyrighted in 2002, and I would probably not recommend purchasing this book at the full price now. I would recommend borrowing it from the library or buying it used.
One of the things that has signficantly changed is the MDS. The MDS 2.0 information referenced in this book is now outdated. We now have the MDS 3.0, which is very different from the MDS 2.0. The MDS 3.0 has new areas and requires resident interviews.
