Treating Interstitial Cystitis With An Integrative Model of Classical Chinese and Western Medicines

Product Description
Matia Brizman, Ph.D., L.Ac. Doctor of philosophy in classical Chinese medicine Board certified in Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture. Matia Brizman is a doctor of classical Chinese medicine practicing acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in Los Angeles, California who treats patients both in the Greater Los Angeles area, as well as in various parts of the United States and abroad. Her work is an original system developed through her years of experience of her own integrative approach between classical Chinese and Western medicines. Since the beginning of her practice in 1996, she has touched the lives of many people, mostly women, but she also treats men and is now gaining much experience with children born to those having had chronic illness, as it is common for those children to experience various health challenges. Matia is endeavoring to form a bridge of understanding and communication between Western and Eastern medical disciplines to make room for more discussion of a truly integrative approach that includes a higher degree of empathy, and treatment that is dynamic an individualized. Dr. Brizman s understanding of this condition has already surpassed the work reflected in her dissertation, however, this book should serve as a good foundation for learning about the condition and her perspective regarding IC, related chronic conditions, and the dynamics of health and illness. Matia intends to continue treating in her private practice, but hopes to expand her work by teaching her philosophy and treatments. Her hope is to reach and help the most people possible. If you're like me, you're looking at this book because you have IC (which means you're completely desperate for help), and you've read somewhere that this Dr. is the bees knees when it comes to IC. I have a really caring accupuncturist/chinese medicine person that I see. I was hoping I could read this, and between the two of us, we could follow it and get me on the path to healing.Unfortunately, this book is not written for the common man. It's a disseration. Unless you are really familiar with Chinese Medicine, you will likely not understand the majority of this book. If I were a dr. of chinese medicine, i would likely give this 5 stars. However, it does have several interesting case studies worth reading, and the basic diet phases that are recommended. As for the rest of it, I will sum up here as near as I understood it:
A) The reason for developing IC is unique to every patient. However, common reasons are: diet(high sugar especially), chlorinated water, laxatives, supplement abuse and birth control.
B) Since the underlying source for IC is different for every patient, the herbal formulas for each patient have to be individually created. Having so much as one ingredient off, dramatically affects the outcome, and can even make the disease worse. These formulas also need to change as healing takes place.
C)in summary, it's unlikely if not impossible, for your standard chinese medicine person to help you and not damage you unless they are super experienced with IC specifically and familiar with this protocol.
D) the book mentions you should visit her website for more info, but every time i go to the site, it's not there. (update, website will work if you clear your browsing history/cookies. Not sure why this is, but it works.)
E) What i gather from all this, is I need to come up with alot of dough to go see her in person. I don't know how you would find someone locally that has enough experience specifically with IC, or the desire to understand the protocol (I'm assuming they'd have to read the whole book). From what i've read on blogs from people that have done this, they think it's worth it.
