Healing the Inner City Child: Creative Arts Therapies with At-risk Youth

Product Description
"Healing the Inner City Child" presents a diverse practical collection of creative arts therapies approaches that meet the ever-increasing mental health needs of inner city children, whose exposure to air and noise pollution, and relatively high instances of violence, crime and family pressures, is increasingly paving the way for depression and behavioural disorders. Drawing on their own professional experience in the disciplined use of music, art, drama and dance therapy, the contributors describe approaches that enable children to overcome the psychological obstacles they experience, and help them reach their full academic and personal potentials. They examine current research and psychoeducational trends and build a compelling case for the use of creative arts therapies with inner city populations. A must-read for creative arts therapists, psychologists, social workers and educators, this book offers practical information for those working to improve the life of children growing up in inner city areas.Healing the Inner City Child: Creative Arts Therapies with At-risk Youth Review
I'm training in the field of expressive arts and desire to work with youth at risk. This is the only book I've come across that addresses these two topics is such a concise and well written approach. The first chapters are dedicated to the research and theory underlying EA work and is a great reference tool for research to support grant applications or to support proposals. The remaining chapters break down different case studies and discuss what went right/wrong with a good deal of candor. I found it to be quite helpful in identifying the pitfalls so that I didn't make the same mistakes when I tried to replicate different projects. I would strongly recommend this book. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Healing the Inner City Child: Creative Arts Therapies with At-risk Youth" are high quality item.
