I read this book before ever taking a class on GI physiology (though I have a background in other aspects of physiology and biochemistry), and I was hooked from the first chapter. I was able to understand it as if I was reading Harry Potter. A year later I read it again for fun as a bedtime treat. It is tremendously well organized, each chapter is logically set up so that it is easy to think back over the material to yourself and review it without the book in front of you. She explores the molecular mechanisms of action for many aspects of the GI system in good detail, and each chapter includes clinical corelates that are so perfectly related to the info you just learned that you can predict the etiology and the treatment from the symptoms.
