Given that this book (and the others in the series) is simply exerpted from a single big, heavy, expensive book, why would you want it instead? There are a couple of reasons why separate volumes make sense. One is cost--not everyone can shell out $200 for the whole thing all at once. In addition someone may only be interested in one particular language group and not the others. For myself, I've even considered getting the individual volumes rather than the Encyclopedia simply because the individual volumes are easier to handle, read, and carry. Since there seems to be an appreciation for the actual content, a one-star review for the edition/format doesn't really make much sense.
